Effect of corrosion on mechanical properties for CFRP/aluminum adhesive joints under a salt spray environment

In this study, we aim to investigate the effect of galvanic corrosion on mechanical properties aluminum-CFRP adhesive joints. Aluminum-CFRP, aluminum-aluminum, and CFRP-CFRP joint specimens were prepared. Subsequently, subjected accelerated aging treatment in a salt spray environment, tensile shear strength, transition failure surface deposition state components products with time quantitatively evaluated. As result, joints under spray, aluminum substrate occurred within 24 hours, adhesive-adherend interfacial strength decreased significantly compared aluminum-aluminum addition, mode changed from mixed failure, cohesive fiber tear failure. Furthermore, it was found that amount Al2O3 increased influence environment.
